AllTheRides.com, the latest free car classified site announces strategic drive in increasing traffic via hassle-free marketing package

AllTheRides.com, the latest free car classified website is determined to make its presence felt in this area of business by offering their hassle free, all inclusive marketing package to small to mid-sized dealerships.

AllTheRides.com is well placed to take on the challenges and competition by well known automotive websites like Cars.com and AutoTrader.com. Megan Adams, AllTheRides’s public relations executive is very optimistic on the prospects and feels that AllTheRides.com is strategically well placed to offer the full range of service to their ever growing client list. “We wanted to appeal to small to mid-sized dealerships. Our aim was to give them outstanding web exposure at a minimal cost” she says. Hence, they decided to create two types of marketing packages for dealers. The first package is absolutely free of charge and the other for a flat rate free on a monthly basis which would give dealers access to a full range of services. “We wanted to make it hassle free for dealers to sign up and market their business. Instead of having multiple packages with countless of criteria, we decided to provide a flat rate fee across the board. That way, every dealer will have an equal chance of marketing their business on AllTheRides.com” Megan adds.

AllTheRides.com has gained tremendous momentum since its inception a year ago, an excellent achievement for a relatively new free auto classified site. Their team of creative marketers is constantly on the lookout for new avenues and ways to market the site with the goal of increasing traffic and web exposure. Megan explains “What makes AllTheRides.com unique from other automotive websites is that it is 100% user driven, which means we rely on users to drive our success. Therefore we want to appeal to both dealers and private consumers. Consumers can benefit from posting their cars for sale on AllTheRides.com as we are a free car classified site which automatically post consumers’ ad to other classified sites as well”.

With the introduction of their new marketing strategy, AllTheRides.com continues to gain speed towards their goal of being the best free automotive classified in the automotive world.

The Porsche Panamera and the homoerotic trailer hitch

feat03porsche_panamera_01

With prices should range from about $80,000 to $150,000,  the Panamera is a fairly priced 4-door sedan. And guess what? It comes with a electronically retractable towing hitch which has the ability to be completely hidden once retracted. The question at hand that we face is that who in their right mind would be towing something with a car that they bought for over a 100 grand. Not to mention the hitch looks like a giant penis that can be controlled electronically. Sheeeeesh!

GM Cancels new Duramax 4.5L V8 Diesel Engine

diesel-druamax-4-5

Light-duty truck buyers interested in purchasing a half-ton diesel are going to have to wait until after 2010 at the very earliest. GM is the latest manufacturer to confirm a diesel engine won’t be offered any time soon in its light-duty pickups. Employees at GM’s Tonawanda Engine Plant near Buffalo, N.Y., were told Monday that the all-new 4.5-liter Duramax V-8 diesel has been indefinitely postponed.

“Due to capital constraints and the current economic climate, the 4.5-liter Duramax is on indefinite hold,” GM powertrain spokesperson Susan Garavaglia told PickupTrucks.com. “It’s not canceled. Should the situation change, we’re still very interested in adding this technology to our product portfolio.”

The news of the so-called baby Duramax being placed on hold isn’t surprising. Ford and Toyota have also indefinitely paused their small diesel programs, and Chrysler recently said a diesel for the Dodge Ram 1500 won’t be available until 2011 at the earliest. Ford, GM, Chrysler and Toyota had previously promised half-ton diesels by the 2010 calendar year.

A rapid surge in fuel prices last year that left diesel fuel with an approximate 20 percent price premium over regular gasoline and the dramatic decline in pickup truck sales have been cited by other truck manufacturers, as well as the deteriorating condition of the general economy.

The 4.5-liter Duramax was a major innovation for diesel engines. It was designed by GM entirely in-house and represented a radical new approach to diesel engine architecture. It reversed the intake and exhaust relative to a conventional diesel so fresh air would enter the cylinders from the outer edges of the cylinder heads while exhaust gases were dumped between the cylinder heads directly into a turbocharger. The breakthrough design eliminated the intake and exhaust manifolds and other related components, saving weight, reducing size and lowering costs by up to an estimated $600 per engine versus a conventional diesel. GM promised power ratings for the 4.5-liter Duramax would be more than 310 horsepower and 520 pounds-feet of torque with up to 25 percent better fuel economy.

“We currently offer a full line of gas and diesel engines in different displacements to meet truck buyers’ needs,” Garavaglia said. “And our Two-Mode Hybrid gets up to 40 percent better fuel economy in the city (versus a comparable gas engine light-duty pickup). For towing and hauling we have our 6.6-liter Duramax diesel available for our heavy-duty Silverado and Sierra pickups. It will be updated for 2010 to meet the latest [EPA] emissions requirements.”

The 6.6-liter V-8 Duramax is rated at 660 pounds-feet of torque and 365 hp.

Garavaglia added that GM might license the 4.5-liter V-8 to an outside partner even if it doesn’t build it on its own.

“If it was a win-win for both parties, we could potentially outsource production [of the 4.5-liter V-8] to a third party,” Garavaglia said.

Toyota Creates World’s 1st Rear-Center Airbag, Volvo does not care

toyota_360_airbag-500x348

Perhaps in response to the concerns raised in regards to rear-seat safety by the super compact Toyota iQ, Toyota unveiled today the world’s first rear-seat center airbag. Obviously designed to reduce the iQ from “screaming metal” to simply “metal” deathtrap, the new center airbag is intended to provide a buffer between the two closely-seated rear passengers in the event they are sandwiched together like sardines during a side-impact collision. Hyped as an “impressive advancement in safety”, we can’t help but think that if a vehicle is so small that rear-seat passengers - even if properly restrained - are still in danger of colliding with one another, it will probably be crushed like a soda can before the airbags can even deploy.

What strikes as as even more bizarre is the fact that some have even heralded Toyota’s new invention as a triumph over the reigning king of safety, Volvo. What they have neglected to take into account, however, is the fact that Volvo (whose motto is: “Rolling Strength”) would never produce something so ineffectually small and obviously dangerous as the iQ to begin with, thus never necessitating the use of something like a rear-center airbag.
